May we present to you, the marriage of my doodling habit and our collective music making efforts: Tune-a-Doodle-Doo. Tune-a-Doodle-Doo is our little imperfect YouTube channel where we share doodled pictures set to traditional kids’ folk tunes. The first song I’m sharing here is “I Know an Old Lady.”
I’m the one drawing and my husband, Tim, is the one singing and playing. (Though I occasionally will sing for these too.) Remember folks, this whole thing is a work in progress. 🙂
I know an old lady who swallowed a fly… I don’t know why she swallowed that fly… perhaps she’ll die?Â
About Tune-a-Doodle-Doo
This project is mostly just for fun, but it’s also meant to help fill a big fat gap in the YouTube world.
In the past, when we’ve searched for suitable music or videos for our kids on YouTube, I’ve always felt overwhelmed by how overstimulating most of the content was. Even if it was a traditional folk song, most of the available kids’ music was overrun with bright colors, obnoxious voices, crazy beats, or tasteless animations. (Save some notable exceptions.) Maybe I’m too picky, but I could barely stomach a few minutes of this stuff.
Somehow or another we got the idea of drawing pictures to go with the songs- and setting the actual drawing of the picture to the music of the song.
I may not be an artist, but there’s something nice about seeing the picture come together along with the song. We also tried to make the children’s music pleasant enough that an adult could tolerate listening to it for a while as well.
Our goal for this channel is to provide wholesome content for preschool and elementary aged kids, while teaching them traditional songs that they may not otherwise encounter in their pop-saturated culture.
What do you think?
Our own kids have given their approval, but we want to know what you think! Let us know if we should work to produce more Tune-a-Doodle-Doo videos. And if you like it, make sure you subscribe and share it, ’cause sharing is caring and helps us feed our family. Thanks!
